Is Single Booklovers a national organization?

Yes. Book lovers are everywhere. Surprisingly, distance does not seem to matter. Many of the thousands of relationships that have blossomed through SBL have come about regardless of location. Of course, you may find members in your geographic location. A typical relationship at SBL develops through correspondence, e-mails, and phone calls (and the occasional box of chocolates or bouquet of flowers) and progresses to meeting in person. The common interest in books, reading, arts, and culture is the catalyst that propels the relationship forward.

Not all of our members are only interested in marriage and romance. Many are interested in discussing books, arts & culture, talking about current events, or just making a new friend.
Don't we all enjoy a personal letter from a friend or aquaintance? Many consider SBL an "island of civility" in today's turbulent world.

What kind of recognition has Single Booklovers received?

SBL is well known in the literary world and within responsible journalism. For example, Terry Gross, Host of Fresh Air on National Public Radio. Cleveland Amory devoted an entire segment to an interview with Ruth and Bob Leach and Single Booklovers. Noted writer wrote a column on SBL. The respected Guideposts Magazine did a feature article on SBL. Even the venerable Wall Street Journal published an article exclusively on Single Booklovers. NBC's Today Show featured Single Booklovers last year. LifeWorks also gave us a recommendation. Almost every major city newspaper has written about Single Booklovers.

Does Single Booklovers use photos of members?

No. Unique to most dating services Single Booklovers offers the opportunity for an "intellectual chemistry" to develop initially. Research confirms that individuals who share common interests make the happiest and longest lasting relationships. That being said, our members are free to exchange photos whenever they wish.

Why should I join Single Booklovers rather than one of the "big" dating services?

SBL "narrows the field" for individuals looking for compatibility. Members are recruited through intelligent publications. We use a rotating advertising schedule in publications such as The New York Review of Books, Harpers, and the like. We attract a well-read individual who is seeking to connect with other well-read individuals who also enjoy the arts. Also, we attract a great number of members through referrals. This is one of our greatest strengths!
