What changes in recent society please you the most I admire Barack Obama as a human being, quite apart from his performance as president. The cards are still out on whether he is or will become a good president. But he is an exceptional person: having lived and gone to graduate school in lily-white Iowa, it was a patriotic moment for me when Iowans voted for Obama in the Iowa Caucus. I felt again the goodness of the American farmer.
What disturbs you most about today's society? The use of modern technology to build ever more destructive weapons. The use of plastic to wrap almost anything sold in our consumer economy: plastic flotilla in the Pacific Ocean, twice the size of the State of Texas.

Hobbies & pastimes: Read almost incessantly, classical music, foreign and independent film, frequent museum attendee. Like to eat and drink (moderately but well), always trying to add to my list of great, reasonably-prices, usually out of the way restaurants. Run two miles in nearby park several mornings a week. Interest and taste in the arts: Visual arts usually not move me much, and to the extent to which they do it's maybe exclusively because of their expression of *ideas.*
Interest in taste in music: Music is very important to me. I listen mostly to classical music (Beethoven, Bach, Brahms, Dvorak, Schubert, Chopin, Grieg). I also like popular music with good synergy between the music and lyrics.
Interest and taste in films/favorites: General interest in dystopian and post apocalyptic genres. I also like dramatic/poignant films.

Interest in travel/favorite places: I have little travel experience. I was in Israel for three weeks once and really liked Jerusalem. I would like to spend time in Europe at some point but don't know languages.
Religion and interest in religion: I am skeptical of organized religion and believe in the indifference of the universe toward human concerns, but I have had meditative moments of great internal calm with a spiritual character and would very much like to have them with greater frequency.
Things you would still like to accomplish in your life time: I would like to do something of lasting value to other people, whether it be charitable in nature or an intellectual contribution.
I don't believe in going through the day to day motions of life without some sort of higher calling - I feel that there's too much at stake - too much pain and beauty in the world.
What changes in recent society please you the most?: The fact that things look increasingly hopeful for people in third world countries.
What disturbs you most about today's society?: Oh, lots of things, perhaps too many to count. To pick out two, Manipulative marketing, the fact that people (including myself) are not wired to use our increasingly powerful technological resources responsibly.
Most important characteristics in a date or mate: Brilliance, passion, sophistication, empathy.
I want someone who is seriously passionate about something and is open to experience.
Someone who is not naive to the harshness of reality nor disillusioned to the point of having given up on doing something meaningful.
Physical appearance matters too, but the ideal for me would be a woman who I connect with so deeply that her physical appearance becomes irrelevant.
Write a short sketch about yourself: I'm characterized by intense broad intellectual curiosity. At various times in my life I've been interested in philosophy, poetry, psychology, sociology, literature, music, chemistry, physics and education. My main focus these days is mathematics and algebraic number theory in particular. I'm attracted to the rich structures that are present in mathematics. Write a short sketch about yourself: I am looking for someone who lives in the NYC metro area Westchester to Brooklyn/Queens. I am a certain type which I call a literary type because I would like to write one book in the future but not as an occupation. It takes time to get to know me. I am unconventional in many but not all ways. I know longer pursue my MLS as an occupation because I have other income and interests but I spend a lot of time in libraries which I still enjoy. I live a simple living lifestyle. I am also a vegetarian so I would like to hear from anyone who is a vegetarian.

Best films I've seen in the past couple of years: The Lookout, The Painted Veil. I also have to admit I enjoy watching some "so bad they're good" films on occasion.

Religion and interest in religion: Raised Catholic-still consider myself one. Don't go as often as I'd like. Closest to a Catholic/traditional Anglican view of things, although I have read a lot about, and admire a great deal, some Eastern philosophies (Buddhism, etc.).
Things you would still like to accomplish in your life time: Still interested in my career, but also looking at just enjoying life, enjoying family/friends, doing some traveling. On a more specific, short-term level, want to get back into playing tennis, to continue learning golf, and hopefully taking up yoga.
What changes in recent society please you the most? Some advances in technology have increased quality of life a great deal.
What disturbs you most about today's society? Sometimes technology can be a two-edged sword and create new difficulties. I dislike the overall coarsening of our culture and decline of civility. The downward spiral of results in our public education (Somebody said, very aptly, that we have gone from teaching Latin and Greek in our grammar schools 100 years ago to teaching remedial English in our universities.) I should say I'm pleased that there are many people out there who are exceptions to those overall negative trends, and live and act with integrity and good sense. And it seems as if there is a growing return to our better values. (Shakespeare said it better-"There's a divinity that shapes our ends-rough hew them how we will.") I hope so.
Most important characteristics in a date or mate: Integrity, intelligence, compatibility and shared interests, "chemistry". Fit, attractive, good sense of humor.

Interest and taste in the arts: Very interested in music, painting, photography. Less knowledgeable about, but also interested in ballet and architecture.
Interest in taste in music: JS Bach, Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin, Liszt, Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Bruckner, Elgar, Debussy, Ravel, Prokofiev, Bartok. I have respect for the American jazz tradition, but little knowledge.
Interest and taste in films/favorites: Hollywood film noir, Tarkovsky, Hitchcock, anything with Ingrid Bergman in the cast.
Interest in travel/favorite places: Love to travel - since I'm interested in music and art, that means mostly to Europe. Paris and St. Petersburg.
Hobbies & pastimes: Photography with the old chemical processes. For years I was a serious photographer, finally losing interest as the world went digital.
Religion and interest in religion: 'nominal' Episcopalian. That means Easter & Christmas. Actually deeply religious but in an unconventional way.

What changes in recent society please you the most?: There are more cultural opportunities than ever before for those smart enough to use them.
What disturbs you most about today's society?: Tattoos on women and the general low pop culture.
Most important characteristics in a date or mate: Lively mind, inquisitive and intelligent, creative, and having a desire to truly partner with her man, not to mention a strong streak of sensuality. She should dress and act feminine - there's no more powerful aphrodisiac. I am willing to travel to meet a compatible woman.
Write a short sketch about yourself: I am a passionate music lover and aspiring novelist - looking for friendship, possibly more. I look 5-7 years younger than my age. Some women find me handsome, a few even 'incredibly sexy' but that's for you to judge. A female musician friend of mine calls me 'the most cultured man I've ever met in Virginia' - again, for you to judge. I'm introspective and in this small town milieu, tend to be a loner, centering in my own world of music, literature and cats. Though sometimes I feel myself a man out of his time, I possess a dry sense of humour that surfaces at inappropriate moments.

Interest and taste in the arts: I enjoy Broadway musicals, especially THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF and LES MISERABLES. I admire Rodin, but I know very little about classical and modern art.

Interest and taste in films/favorites: My taste in films doesn't always run towards the popular; I rarely go to films in the Top Ten. My favorite films include Walt Disney's FANTASIA, 1776 and LAST OF THE MOHICANS (1992).
Interest in travel/favorite places: With regard to foreign travel, I have traveled to and enjoy traveling to Europe (I've been to England, Ireland, France, Italy, Greence and Transylvania!). Domestically, I've been to Seattle, Philadelphia and Orlando.

What disturbs you most about today's society?: The fcat that this country has willingly followed a president into an unpopular war that has strayed so far from its original objective that that objective has almost been forgotten.

Write a short sketch about yourself: I am a somewhat shy person with an unusual sense of humor, and as befits an Aquarius, I am something of a dreamer, but also extremely imaginative; this comes in handy since I am a stage and professional voice-over actor. I have always loved acting, ever since I was little; I specialize in character roles and love taking annual classes in stage combat (particularly swordsmanship!). I like to express myself in writing, and I live in Forest Hills and love it because I've always enjoyed the quiet areas of the city rather than the noisy, more populated parts, understandable since I grew up in Manhattan's upper East Side (which could be very crowded and noisy, especially around parade times!). I enjoy traveling (my favorite city is London) and have been to some rather unusual lands, including spending Halloween(my favorite holiday!) in Ireland and Transylvania (in Dracula's Castle no less!). I am an avid collector, and I have a large collection of films, books, records and tapes.
