What changes in recent society please you the most?: Jeanne Garofalo gets her own radio show. The continued existence of NPR and PBS.

What disturbs you most about today's society?: Authoritarianism, and worship of power and success. TV culture (TV in moderation is fine).

Most important characteristics in a date or mate: Enjoyment of learning. There is a lot I don't know, and would love to learn it with you.

Interest and taste in the arts: Enjoy visiting art and historical museums, theater.

Interest in taste in music: This is my principal interest. Classical music especially orchestral and chamber music both traditional and avant garde. Growing interest in opera.

Interest and taste in films/favorites: Enjoy seeing films dramatic, comedy, and documentary; do not go to see violence, special effects, or horror/thrillers. Some I like are Dr. Zhivago, Citizen Kane, the Producers, some Woody Allen, Airplane, and many more.

Interest in travel/favorite places: Like to travel, but not too much. Favorites: Vermont and places with mountains and forests. Preferably places that are not too hot. Would like to go to Europe occasionally.

Hobbies & pastimes: Playing music (clarinet) by myself or in groups; calligraphy; day hiking; bicycling; bowling; playing board games and cards.

Religion and interest in religion: Quaker. Religion is an important part of my life, and I believe it is a very personal decision. Tolerance is very important. People should be free to explore the spiritual aspects of their life as they like.

Things you would still like to accomplish in your life time: Live for a year in another country possibly in Europe--British Isles or German speaking countries.

What changes in recent society please you the most?: The greater availability of fine arts and music to larger numbers of people through technology.

What disturbs you most about today's society?: Greed, excessive consumerism, and continued war and violence.

What disturbs you most about today's society?: environmental ignorance; and Bush policies, of course: retrograde & arrogant, unenlightened, in almost every case.

Most important characteristics in a date or mate: I’d like to get to know an attractive, gentle and discriminating lady with an ear for language and a playful, twinkle-in-the-eye wry humor, and one who has yet known loss, for which she is the deeper, kinder, and more humble. I’d hope she prefers natural scenes to urban ones.

Additional comments about yourself: a little diffident but fairly sociable; loves words and wordplay, classical (esp. choral) music, mystery and beauty in the natural world. Autodidact; bit of an Anglophile; conservative in looks, perhaps, but not in spirit. Values elegance, sensitivity, courtesy and kindness, playful humor, poetic/romantic sensibilities.

Interest and taste in the arts: I like the impressionists, when they are not too abstract. I prefer earlier renaissance art and sculpture. Specifically architecture.

Interest in taste in music: I have varied tastes, from Heavy Metal, to Classical. Will listen to some country, but not preferred. I really enjoy Enya and Clannad.

Interest and taste in films/favorites: Primarily action, but I like mystery, science fiction, fantasy, drama and documentary.

Interest in travel/favorite places: I go to Maine often, and I recently went to Brussels. Very enjoyable.

Hobbies & pastimes: Wood working, home repair, coin collecting, hiking.

Religion and interest in religion: Not a particularly devout Catholic. I like to learn so I follow up and read a little on the subject.

Things you would still like to accomplish in your life time: To become a father, and be good at it. Pay off my house and retire while I can still enjoy it.

What changes in recent society please you the most?: That society is becoming more aware of the rest of the world. We are realizing how closely tied we all are. People seem to be taking more responsibility for themselves, but corporate America is realizing that people have a life outside of work and are becoming more flexible.

What disturbs you most about today's society?: The callousness, the turning of the blind eye and the idea that money solves everything.

Most important characteristics in a date or mate: That she is down to earth and affectionate.

Additional comments about yourself: I am nervous when I meet people, but I can be a lot of fun. I believe it’s the simple things, like a great cup of coffee, that make life worth living.

Favorite authors: Patrick O'Brien, George R.R. Martin, Tolkien, Jane Austen.

Favorite periodicals & newspapers: Discovery, Archaeology, Biblical Archaeology Review, Economist, Seattle Times, The Oregonian, The Daily Astorian.

Interest and taste in the arts: I enjoy going to galleries and museums, although way out here on the coast, I don't get many chances.

Interest in taste in music: Jazz, rock, folk. I listen to jazz on our local NPR stations.

Interest and taste in films/favorites: I like a lot of movies. Increasingly it seems like the classic movies by Hitchcock are the best.. I like to have a plot that makes sense, with interesting dialog.

Interest in travel/favorite places: I enjoy traveling although it would be much more interesting to travel with a friend. Recently, I visited Las Vegas for the first time. I don't gamble, but had a great time walking around people watching.

Hobbies & pastimes: Reading (of course!), walking along the beach or the Columbia River, furniture refinishing, visiting friends and family, spending quality time with my cat..

Religion and interest in religion: I am a liberal Lutheran. I attend services about once a month.

Things you would still like to accomplish in your life time: Meet the person of my dreams and travel around the world with her.

What changes in recent society please you the most?: There seems to be a greater interest in developing a sense of community and caring for one another. Medical advances are making it possible for people to live longer and better lives.

What disturbs you most about today's society?: Greed. Too many people trying to acquire more and more material possessions at the expense of others.

Most important characteristics in a date or mate: A good sense of humor. Feelings of compassion for other people.

What changes in recent society please you the most?: The times of 92 -2000. all else has been not to my taste or ilk . I served in politics and it was small scale . Rain forest attention has been apparent Water quality is more aware. Hybrid cars hurrah !

What disturbs you most about today's society?: Preemptive war. Killing of civilians. Ignoring 3rd world. Fear mongering. Large corporate egregiousness. Invasions of privacy and pedophile.

Most important characteristics in a date or mate: Brightness /health. Humor, hygiene, energy, altruism companionship, romance, trust ,sensuality, communication skills ( lithe would be nice but n/r ) and tomboys, too but n/r.

Additional comments about yourself: I cook and can live spartan. I bought and paid off a home on water and in the woods, but close to cities and ap's . I do things simply for exercise and do not waste energies. Have outdoor pets . Do not smoke and have slight allergy to some pets ( mine stay od ) I recreate everyday and own no guns. Lived in six states. Never went back north again . Born in OP Ill . Schooled in Chicago .
