Interest in travel/favorite places: I've traveled quite a bit--parts of Europe, Australia, Africa, Canada, Mexico, Latin America; I lived for a semester in Japan. Still eager to see other parts of Latin America, Africa, Asia, Scandinavia, Greece, and just about any place that qualifies as an island!
Religion and interest in religion: Lapsed Catholic... I'm very interested in religion but divorce has made my relationship w/the church a bit tricky (I did get an annulment--my problem is the church's politics, its overall conservatism).
Things you would still like to accomplish in your life time: I'd like to write another handful of books--literary nature writing (prose) is the basic idea.
What changes in recent society please you the most?: Increasing access (not yet good enough, mind you) of formerly marginalized peoples to education, the arts, travel opportunities, and the like.

I teach honors courses in material I love--environmental literature and history (especially American), food and sustainable agriculture, and creative nonfiction. I very much enjoy teaching but also love having summers free to read, write, travel, and go down a wild river or two for days at a time. I'm fit, don't smoke, tend to use my bike or my Vespa for short trips rather than drive if possible; I like to buy locally raised and/or organic food or grow my own. I enjoy a night out now and then but am more often likely to hang out at home w/my collie, reading or watching a DVD or enjoying a drink or a simple meal with friends. I'm a white Southerner from near New Orleans who lived for ten years as an adult in New England, so I like to think I have a ! fair amount of Southern grace without too much of the negative baggage. Honest, stable, friendly, and fun in an understated sort of way.
